The Shortwave Log Suite of Applications

Shortwave Log was released in 1990 as a logging program for MS-DOS. Through the years, more and more functionality has been added. Today Shortwave Log consists of the following applications:

Shortwave Log, the original logging application
Radio Control Server, control over two dozen receivers
RCS Remote, a web application that allows remote control via the Internet
Audio Recording & Scheduler, make recordings of broadcasts

Shortwave Log runs under the following versions of Windows with the latest service pack:

Build 3663

The build number simply denotes the number of days since 1/1/2000. It is an easy way to number new builds. Rather than using version numbers like 1.1, 3.2, and 34.7, build numbers like 2919, 3029, and 3192 are used.

Technical Overview

Shortwave Log is built using Microsoft techologies such as the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, C#, IIS7, IE8, Silverlight 3, and SQL Sever 2008 Express. There is no support or plans for any other platforms. It is such a joy to program for .NET.

System Requirements

Shortwave Log has quite modest requirements. Any regular-class or netbook-class computer running Windows with at least 512 MB of RAM and a 1.0 GHz or higher processor is sufficient. Shortwave Log also runs in virtual machines such as VMWare, VirtualBox, and Virtual PC. Shortwave Log and the underlying SQL Server database are designed to take advantage of multi-core CPUs.

Support for SQL Server 2008

Shortwave Log has been updated to work with SQL Server 2008. All new installations will use SQL Server 2008; however, SQL Server 2005 can still be used for existing installations.
